Winter White Afternoon Break

Hello everyone,

      I am so glad I had my outdoor tea last week when the temperature was milder instead of the -17 it is here today. However, the sun is shining and we had a fresh coat of sparkly white fluff over everything making it beautiful out there!

My little afternoon break is actually not tea but a lovely cup of hot cocoa with whipped cream and cinnamon and some pretty sugar cookies (the recipe is on yesterdays post if you are interested).

My tulips seem to follow me wherever I go!

Grab a pair mittens and cover up with a throw if you are chilly.

Hot cocoa is such a lovely treat on a winter day.

Some extra hot cocoa for you in this cute little teapot.

 Well that was a lovely little break in the fresh air- I enjoyed it and I hope you did too!

It is going to warm up tomorrow but we are supposed to get 15- 25 cm. of that fluffy stuff tomorrow with winds so winter is here for awhile.

Tea & Cookies

Hello everyone,

      Hope you had a lovely weekend. Winter has really hit here in the last couple of days-it is COLD out there! So,it is a good day to enjoy a hot cup of tea.

I am in a pink mood today.

A cup for you and one for me!

I am showing the bottom of the teacup for you Jan as I couldn't get into your profile and I am not sure if you saw the reply on my blog.

Still loving my tulips!

I had to share this find with you -six handmade crochet valences ,all for six dollars at a new thrift store in town.

Someone also asked for the recipe for these sugar cookies:

2/3 cup of shortening or lard
3/4 cup of white sugar
1 teaspoon of vanilla
1 egg
4 teaspoons of milk

2 cups of flour
1 1/2 teaspoon of baking powder
1/4 teaspoon of salt

Cream the first two ingredients & then beat in vanilla , egg, &milk.
whisk the dry ingredients together , add to the shortening  or lard mix,
beat until well mixed. Chill for 1 hour. Roll & cut with your favorite cookie cutter.
Bake at 350 degrees for approximately 10 minutes or until lightly brown.
Enjoy!

Winter Bliss !

Hello everyone,

  I hope you are enjoying your weekend so far. We are having some colder weather this weekend but it has been usually mild up until now. I try to go for a walk most days even in winter as the fresh air and exercise makes me feel good. Maybe you would like to come along with me today.

We have a small woods on our property with a  little brook going through it. It is so relaxing to hear the sound of the brook in winter or summer.

Gathering some boughs for a winter arrangement.

The sun is trying to peek out so maybe you would like to wrap up in a quilt and cathch a few rays!

The  shot of our woods  above was taken a few weeks ago after a heavy snowfall.

I played in picnik for a few minutes to give this a winter effect.

I don't usually subject you to photos of me but a walk in the woods just wouldn't be the same without a guide. My husband was the photographer today.

I hope you enjoyed coming along on a woodland walk with me. Now, a cup of hot cocoa is in order don't you think?

Happy Pink Saturday

Happy Pink Saturday!

     We are getting some nasty weather here so it is a good time to stay indoors for awhile and check out all the pretty pinks at How Sweet the Sound.

This little pink fairy is 3 year old granddaughter Abby.

This picture was taken last summer of Abby and her big sister Olivia.

They love to dress up -like most little girls.

I am so happy to have locally grown tulips in the stores to bring on some early spring cheer.

Also pots of hyacinths are blooming now.

I am joining Beverly at How Sweet the Sound for Pink Saturday where there will be lots of pinks to enjoy.

Brown & White Transferware

Hello everyone,

      Well, it is Show & Tell day again so I am sharing some of my brown and white transferware again.

This is my newest old soup tureen that my husband bought for me down in Maine as I kept drooling over it -even though my arms were full of some red and white dishes that I also had to have. They came from an antique mall that had a lot of good sales on-so who could resist?

It is old and it does have a crack in it but I still love it! Like wrinkles it just adds character.

Sorry I got carried away-too much of a good thing!

I played with my dishes again and did this little display on the table in out library.

I got this pretty plate at a local auction.

This covered dish came from Homesense.

How about a cup of tea in the little reading nook?

Yep! another old cracked bowl that I love.

While I am on the brown and white theme ,I thought I would throw in some toile too, from our guest room.

Well that is it for me today but at My Romantic Home there is lots a beauty to be seen. Thank you, Cindy for hosting again this week.

There is talk of a snowstorm for us this weekend so we shall see what is in store for us soon.
